                                 Gestalt Therapy

Gestalt Therapy is a method of psychotherapy developed in the 1950's by Fritz Perls, MD.  It honors each human being as a unique expression of life in a culture that may not always allow that uniqueness.  It promotes aliveness in the individual by encouraging clients to make contact deep within themselves, and provides experiences based on what is happening in the present moment, rather than cognitive understanding of historical patterns and structures.  The therapist / client relationship is also a powerful tool for experiential healing as well.

We each have blocks within us, which prevent the free flow of our natural liveliness.  Gestalt therapy brings to awareness the nature of these blocks, and how they may be dissolved so that the authentic self emerges as an ally to move through life.  The Gestalt approach works successfully with individuals, groups, and couples.

A Gestalt therapy session often begins by making contact with what is happening for the client in the present moment.  As the client's process begins to unfold, the session often moves to a place where unfinished experiences from past events can complete, or new experiences of new ways of being in the world are explored.

Gestalt is a very dynamic therapy where the client is encouraged to have their body, emotions, and imagination involved in the therapy process so life is lived with more energy, excitement, creativity and aliveness.
